BIT Claims
Acted as counsel for governments and multinational companies in investment treaty claims under various rules involving a range of industries, including energy, oil, minerals, steel and forestry, and issues, such as petrochemical pricing.
Cayman Investment Fund
Acting for a Cayman Islands investment fund in a US$250 million dispute arising from a syndicated financing of a conglomerate in East Africa (LCIA Rules, London).
State-owned Oil Refinery
Acted as counsel for a state-owned oil company in an arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arising from the delay in the upgrade of an oil refinery.
Fossil Fuel Mining
Represented a Russian coal mining company in defending allegations that it was liable for an accident that occurred at a Russian port under agreements with a Japanese trading investment company for the sale and purchase of coal. The matter was successfully settled (HKIAC Rules, Hong Kong).
European Commission
Representing the European Commission as intervenor in proceedings before the Australian Federal Court for enforcement of arbitration awards against the Kingdom of Spain.
Sale of Goods Contract Dispute
Represented the respondent in an arbitration before the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) regarding a US$20 million dispute over a sale of goods contract between a European distributor of consumer electronic products and a Chinese manufacturer.
Gas Drilling Project
Acting for an Eastern European joint venture in a US$50 million dispute with a subcontractor regarding a turnkey gas drilling project and the subcontractor’s breaches of contract (LCIA Rules, London).
Professional Negligence Claims
Acted for the liquidators of United States and Cayman Island based feeder funds in an arbitration regarding professional negligence claims (London, IDRC).
