Stephanie Lo

Expertise and Practice

Stephanie is experienced with significant commercial and financial disputes, including matters arising from corporate collapses in Australia and internationally and major construction projects. She has extensive experience advising on issues such as breach of contract, directors’ duties, audit negligence, construction defects, professional negligence, corporate governance and fraud. In addition, Stephanie advises clients on privacy law and corporate governance compliance.

Stephanie is a Managing Lawyer of the Accessible Justice Project, a not-for-profit law practice established by LK to provide affordable legal advice about civil disputes to members of the community who would be otherwise unable to afford the cost or be eligible for legal aid. Stephanie plays a key role in the practice’s administration.

Stephanie commenced at LK in 2010 and spent 21 months as the Associate to the Honourable David Bleby QC in the Supreme Court of South Australia. She has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Adelaide. She is admitted in the Supreme Court of South Australia, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia.

Stephanie is also a member of the Law Society of SA’s Wellbeing and Resilience Committee.

Project Highlights

Confidential Construction Dispute

Represented the distributor of cement products and services in proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia and in mediation against the builder of collapsed silos for breach of contract, negligence and misleading or deceptive conduct.

Confidential Professional Negligence Claim

Worked with an offshore firm to defend another professional services firm in relation to allegations of professional negligence.

Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation

Provided corporate governance advice to NNAC’s Board.

new Royal Adelaide Hospital

Representing the South Australian State Government on various strategic and legal issues concerning defects, defaults, delays and disruption arising out of the AU$2.5 billion public-private partnership for the design, construction and operation of the State’s major health facility. This involves acting for the State in the associated arbitral proceedings and proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of South Australia.

Great Southern Group

Represented the liquidators of Great Southern Group, which, prior to its collapse, was Australia’s largest publicly listed agricultural managed investment scheme provider. LK investigated the claims available to the liquidators, which culminated in multiple proceedings against the Group’s former auditors and certain directors arising from the alleged misstatement of audited financial statements over a number of audit years.

Carlyle Capital Corporation Limited

Represented the liquidators of Carlyle Capital Corporation, a Guernsey company listed on Euronext, including investigations and litigation in Guernsey and the United States over the collapse of a US$22 billion hedge fund. Litigation included anti-anti-suit proceedings in the Guernsey Court of Appeal in relation to a forum dispute.
