Allie Umoff

Expertise and Practice

Allie has experience across a wide range of commercial disputes, involving insolvency, professional negligence, directors’ duties, breaches of contract and construction defects and delays. In over 15 years of practice, she has represented clients in disputes in the United States, Australia, Europe and the Cayman Islands, across various industries, including construction, government, professional services, transport, agribusiness, finance, insolvency and energy & resources.

Allie’s experience includes large, complex and multi-jurisdictional disputes. She is adept at using litigation and other technology to manage large-scale discovery exercises. She presents locally and internationally on issues arising in discovery and the use of advanced technology such as AI, as well as mediation, corporate governance and ethics.

Allie is also an accredited mediator where she draws on her extensive experience in litigation and arbitration to assist parties in reaching negotiated agreements.

Allie joined LK in 2012 and has been admitted in the Supreme Court of South Australia since 2015 and admitted to practice in California, USA, since 2008. She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of California.

Recent Experience

Breach of Fiduciary Duty

Representing a law firm in derivative claims for breach of fiduciary duty and professional negligence brought by limited partners of an offshore-registered fund.

new Royal Adelaide Hospital

Representing the South Australian State Government on various strategic and legal issues concerning major defaults, delays and disruption in arbitral and Federal Court proceedings arising out of the AU$2.5 billion public-private partnership for the design, construction and operation of the State’s major health facility.

Western Desert Resources Liquidation

Represented the liquidators of Western Desert Resources, an iron ore mining operation in the Northern Territory that collapsed with creditors in the order of AU$200 million and subsequent liquidator’s avoidance actions including preference claims exceeding AU$100 million.

Professional Negligence Claims

Represented firm of chartered accountants in response to claims made in the Supreme Court of South Australia alleging professional negligence and conflicts of interest in respect of sale transactions undertaken in the hotels and pharmacies sectors.

Carlyle Capital Corporation

Represented the liquidators of Carlyle Capital Corporation, a Guernsey company listed on Euronext, including investigations and litigation in Guernsey and the United States over the collapse of a US$22 billion hedge fund.

Disciplinary Proceedings and Claims against Liquidator

Represented former liquidator of a group of companies in a successful appeal in the Supreme Court of South Australia against allegations of negligence and related breach of duties. Acted in relation to regulatory investigations and subsequent disciplinary proceedings commenced in the Supreme Court of South Australia by ASIC in relation to the same matters.

Great Southern Group

Represented the liquidators of Great Southern Group which, prior to its collapse, was Australia’s largest publicly listed agricultural managed investment scheme provider, in multiple proceedings against the company’s former directors and auditors.

Aramis Wines

Advised the administrators of South Australian wine producer.
